You just got a shiny new paint job on your vehicle. The paint job may be a result of an accident or maybe it was just time for a refreshed colour. Now, you’re wondering what to do to ensure that your vehicle maintains its integrity and the quality of the fresh paint. We’ll outline a few key tips and tricks to ensure that your vehicle stays looking fresh for months, and years to come.

Don’t Wax It

Ensure that you are not using any sort of wax on your vehicle for at least 6-8 weeks. This is to allow the curing process to happen. Waxing your vehicle before the curing process has finished can result in possible damage or discolouration. Ultimately, If you’re looking to clean the finish, you can try using a polish instead. This won’t interfere with the curing process and will still leave your vehicle looking pristine.

You CAN wash it

Your vehicle should be ready to be washed right away after a paint job. However, we suggest that you should give your vehicle some tender, love, and care by hand washing it with new mitts, rinse and wash buckets, as well as a microfiber towel for effective drying. This gives you peace of mind knowing that your vehicle was washed with care instead of a large size industrial car wash that may have stiff brushes and materials. This is not to say that an automated car wash is not a good option. However, you as the owner have more control of quality when it is hand washed.

Damage to paint: Bird Droppings, Sap, and Bugs

It’s no secret that sometimes things happen that are entirely out of our control. Bird droppings, tree sap that falls during certain times of the year, and bugs on your grille are among some of those things. It’s inevitable that these droppings and substances will come into contact with your vehicle at some point or another. Therefore,  knowing what to do following an incident is crucial. When such damage does happen, it’s important to wash it off immediately as these substances can be corrosive to your paint. Especially in instances of very sunny or hot days, the substance can burn into the paint and corrode it. In the unfortunate chance that this does happen, you’ll have to get it professionally repaired and repainted.

Avoid Dirt or Gravel Roads

The last thing you want to do after getting a fresh paint job is drive on a particularly unkempt back road or dirt road. It’s no secret that rocks and other particles of dirt are going to be flying up and could affect the integrity of your paint job. Thus, resulting in paint chips and other minor dings and scratches.

Park Smart

It’s best to park your vehicle in a garage post paint if you have the ability to do so. This allows the curing process to continue in a regulated temperature that is not too hot or too cold. Extreme temperatures can cause paint to dull and fade.
