Who doesn’t dream of having the privacy of all blacked-out windows in their vehicle? Here are some honest tips from our technicians to consider before you tint your vehicle’s windows.

Different Types

The first thing to know about window tint is there are different types, of course. After doing a few quick searches, you will come to know there are about 4-6 different types of window tint:

Dyed Window Tint

  • Perfect option for a tight budget
  • Block sunlight using multiple layers of dye
  • Will provide minimal heat protection
  • Will fade over time and need to be replaced

Metallized

  • Similar to dyed window tint (filters heat by reflecting it)
  • Adds to the window strength
  • Higher scratch-resistant
  • Effective glare and UV blocking

Carbon

  • Has unique matte-finish
  • Blocks 40% of IR radiations responsible for heating interiors
  • Helps save energy by reducing the need for cooling in summer and heating during winter
  • Durable and does not fade over time

Ceramic

  • High quality
  • Can block up to 99% of UV rays
  • Relatively new type of tinting

Hybrid

  • Has both metallic particles and dye
  • Commonly used combination is titanium and grey dye
  • It’s neither too dark nor too reflective/mirror-like
  • Provides a good amount of privacy while blocking good percentage of UV rays

Crystalline

  • If you want to tint your windows without that dark look, this is your best option
  • This will block UV radiations and solar heat without the need of a dark film
  • Will seem like there’s no tinting at all
